Health & Safety At Amavida | In Response to COVID-19

by | Mar 16, 2020 | Cafes, Community, Local

Dear Friends,

It is our commitment to you, as well as, our staff, community, and visitors, that we do our part to mitigate the spread of this new virus. We want you to know we are making every effort to keep you all informed of how we are adapting our procedures to keep everyone healthy. For now, we will continue to operate our cafes and roastery with enhanced safety measures to deliver coffee to our customers, from online guest to subscribers to our coffee houses and wholesale partners.

In all of our cafes and at our roastery cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety are of utmost importance. We already have strict sanitation standards in place, so we are reinforcing those standards and adding to them in light of COVID-19.

Here are some of the current steps we are taking to keep our facilities safe & clean:

At our Cafes we are:

  • More frequently sanitizing chairs, tables, counters, door knobs, shared spaces including milk bar, cream pitchers, pastry tongs and airpots
  • Washing hands more frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and water (Always after cell phone use)
  • Reducing the amount of touch-points for staff and customers by refusing reusable cups behind the counter & using disposable-compostable cups.
  • Cream, sugar, and any other flavorings for drinks will be added by the barista before handing the drink off to the customer.
  • Managers are to communicate with staff daily to reinforce messages of cleanliness, sanitation and hand-washing and keep them updated on the latest developments
  • All locations will be closing by 7pm (4pm for The Market Shops).

At the Roaster, we are:

  • Instructing employees to wash their hands more frequently and for at least 20 seconds with soap and water (Always after cell phone use)
  • Ensuring all packing equipment is cleaned and sanitized on a daily basis
  • Encouraging the increased use of hand-sanitizer
  • Disinfecting door handles, faucets, toilet handles, light switches, computers, phones at least two times per day
  • As required by an escalation of the incident rate of COVID-19 in the United States, we may implement an enhanced security protocol for deliveries made to our facility. This would include observing the driver for any signs of respiratory illness
  • Managers will communicate daily with staff to reinforce messages of cleanliness, sanitation and hand-washing and keep them updated on the latest developments

Overall, we are:

  • Instructing employees to stay home and CALL their primary care doctor should they have a fever, cough or shortness of breath
  • Instructing employees to stay home if they have been in contact with someone, they believe has been exposed to COVID-19
  • Instructing employees to avoid touching their faces and to wash their hands after they do
  • Sharing information as we learn more, and keeping our team informed if best safety practices

We will continue to monitor this situation, adapt our procedures and practices as needed based on the guidance of the CDC, and keep you informed. Thank you for your commitment and support during this challenging time. We are confident that we will get through this together!
