Jorge Eli Dussan
This exceptional organic Colombia comes to us from Jorge Eli Dussan and his farm Finca El Ilusión in Planadas, Tolima. Jorge was surrounded by coffee his entire childhood and when his parents passed away, he inherited the land that would become Finca El Ilusión. He now operates the farm with his wife, Lucelida Mulado, and their children. In 2015, Jorge’s farm achieved organic certified, and he believes that extremely strict and careful processing is the key to high quality coffee. This lot immediately stood out to us on the cupping table for its sugary sweet flavor profile. A total of 8 bags were available, and Amavida grabbed all of them.
Finca El Ilusión is situated at 1900 meters above sea level and grows Castillo and Colombia coffee trees. Cherries are hand picked, depulped, and dry fermented 24 hours. After the seeds are fully washed, they are dried on covered raised beds for 15-20 days. Prolonged drying ensures a stable coffee that can withstand transit overseas and storage in warehouse.
This Colombia is a staff favorite. We are getting tangerine and licorice in the aroma, followed by brown sugar, Concord grape and lemongrass in the cup. These sugary sweet flavors paired with a structured body make this one of the best Colombian lots we have carried in years. We stocked up on Jorge Eli Dussan’s delicious microlot so we can share it with you for months to come.
