An Exceptional Organic Ethiopian Coffee Marks The End Of Summer

This exceptional Organic Ethiopian coffee is the last release in Amavida’s summer reserve series lineup.  It is produced by farmers from the small community (kebele) of Aricha, and released by the beloved Idido Coop in Yirgacheffee, Ethiopia. In 2019, we carried Ethiopia Idido Wegida, a community lot from the Wegida kebele within the Idido coop. The organic coffee was a hit, scoring a 93 on coffee review and selling out fast in our cafes. We are thrilled to offer another community lot from this producer group this summer.  Aricha became famous for its high quality natural processed lots in the earl 2000s, but we are seeing similar quality in their washed lots as well. At an elevation of 1950-2300 meters, the microclimate of Aricha is ideal for producing incredible, unique flavors.

This Aricha comes from Abiyot Ageze, an organic Ethiopian coffee producer from Yirgacheffe who is continuing the tradition of producing high quality natural and washed selections in the region. This lot of organic Ethiopian coffee beans was processed at his washing station in Konga, keeping all cherries from the community of Aricha separated. This coffee was processed using traditional underwater fermentation that is popular in Ethiopia, for 24-48hours. It is then washed and dried on raised beds for 10-14 days.

Coffees from Idido really stand out from other Ethiopians. The floral characteristics shine through in a way that really are unique from our other offerings from the same growing region.  The Aricha is impressive, with notes of lemon, honeysuckle and grapefruit in the aroma. The citrus and floral notes are particular intense and delightful. In the cup, those aromatics give way to melon, candied lemon and mint.

The Bottom Line

The Organic Ethiopia Idido Aricha is punctuated by flowers and citrus from start to finish. This is an elegant coffee that fully represents why the coffee industry melts over lots from Idido.
