A Limited Release From Rosendo Domingo
This limited release reserve series Guatemala comes to us from Rosendo Domingo and his farm, Palanch’en. We found this premium lot to be very approachable with notes of red grape, molasses and raisin in the cup.
Rosendo Domingo is a second-generation coffee producer in Petatan, Huehuetenango. His farm sits at 1610 meters, and he grows Caturra and Pache variety coffee trees. During harvest, only the ripest cherries are picked and then depulped on he same day. The coffee is then fermented in water between 36 to 40 hours and washed with clean water. The first hours of the drying process the coffee is left in thick layers to lower the humidity, and then rested in in the sun for five days. Lastly, the coffee parchment is sorted by hand to eliminate the defects and impurities.
The name of the farm, Palanch’en, comes from the local indigenous language Popti or Jakalteko. It translates in Spanish into “Cara de Caballo” which means in English “Face of a Horse”. At the farm, there is a large stone which is in the shape of the head of a horse. This is how the farm got its name.
Bottom Line
This is an exceptional single farmer lot that any coffee lover will enjoy. With notes of red grape, molasses and raisin in the cup, this reserve coffee is one of our favorites of the season.
Thank you to our friends at Primavera Green Coffee for helping us tell the story of Rosendo Domingo.
