May through October, South Walton Turtle Watch volunteers are out at dawn in search of sea turtle nests on our coastline. Once found, they are protected until the turtles hatch, and every detail of the nests are documented for conservation efforts. Our gulf waters are home to four of the seven surviving species of sea turtles– Loggerhead, Green, Leatherback and Kemp’s Ridley. Adult females crawl onto our beaches to lay their eggs at night, and in due time, the baby sea turtles scamper to the water to begin their own life. You can help ensure that our beaches are safe for this amazing cycle of life to continue.
